New Year fairs to open on Feb 4
The Food & Environmental Hygiene Department announced today that 2024 Lunar New Year fairs will be held at 15 locations from February 4 to 7am on February 10. Altogether, a total of about 1,500 stalls selling New Year flowers, dry goods and fast food will be set up.
The department said the resumption of dry goods and fast food stalls, which were suspended in previous years due to the pandemic, marked Hong Kong’s full return to normalcy.
Innovation and technology measures will be used to monitor the fair venues and crowd control management will be implemented when necessary.
Footfall at the 15 fairs will be displayed on the department’s website in a green, amber and red lights format.
A green light will indicate that just a few people are at the fair site, an amber light will signal that a venue is slightly crowded, and a red light will denote a high level of crowdedness.
Admission to the fairs will cease 15 minutes prior to the closing time every day.
The department urged citizens to keep public places clean and not to litter while enjoying the festive season.
