Civil servants promote work at expo

January 25, 2024

The Civil Service Bureau (CSB) and various other government bureaus and departments have set up booths at the Education & Careers Expo 2024 to inform attendees about the work of different civil service grades. The expo is being held at the Convention & Exhibition Centre from today until Sunday.

They bureaus and departments aim to enhance public understanding of government work and encourage people with aspirations to serve the community to join the civil service.

Addressing the expo’s opening ceremony, Secretary for the Civil Service Ingrid Yeung said the Government, as the largest employer in Hong Kong, offers a wide range of job opportunities.

She added that the Government has implemented a series of measures in recent years to attract people to join the civil service, including conducting year-round recruitment for more departments and grades, expanding civil service recruitment to undergraduate students in their penultimate year of study, and organising career fairs and talks in local universities.

Mrs Yeung stressed that a career in the civil service is profoundly meaningful and brimming with exciting challenges. She encouraged visitors to visit the booths to witness civil servants’ commitment to serving the community and learn about their work.

The civil service chief said she was also pleased that government bureaus and departments are participating in 19 sharing sessions under a “Careers in the Government Talk Series” held by the CSB at its booth for the first time this year. The sessions involve serving civil servants talking about their individual grades and their day-to-day work, as well as job application and interview skills, and career prospects.

Meanwhile, the Department of Justice, the Government Flying Service and the Civil Aviation Department will hold three thematic seminars disclosing employment information relating to their departmental grades at the expo’s Careers Forum.

The expo is being held from 10am to 7pm from January 25 to 27, and from 10am to 6pm on January 28. The CSB booth is located at Hall 1D.
