The Electrical & Mechanical Services Department said it requested CLP Power Hong Kong to submit a detailed report within four weeks in relation to a power supply incident that occurred today.
 
The incident happened in areas of Tsuen Wan, Kwai Chung and Tsing Yi at around 3.13pm, and the department received CLP Power’s initial report at around 3.31pm in accordance with the established mechanism.
 
According to the report, a fault occurred in CLP Power’s Nga Ying Chau Street Substation, prompting the automatic protection system to immediately isolate the faulty part.
 
Although no electricity shortage was found, short voltage dips ensued from the incident, and nearby electricity customers might experience dimming or flicking in their lighting systems as a result. Additionally, electrical installations sensitive to voltage changes, such as elevators, might stop operation due to the activation of their protection system.
 
Subsequently, the department immediately followed up with CLP Power on the incident’s development and monitored the progress of the repair work. It also requested the utility company to identify the cause of the incident and submit a detailed report.
 
In case of an electrical accident, electricity suppliers are required by law to submit to the Director of Electrical & Mechanical Services a report detailing the cause, as well as the remedial action that has been or will be done to prevent the recurrence of such an accident.
 
The department stressed that it will continue to communicate with CLP Power and urge the company to take appropriate follow-up and improvement measures.
