Classes to be suspended on Oct 9

October 8, 2023

As Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 will remain in force till at least 11am on October 9, the Government announced that classes of all day schools will be suspended tomorrow to ensure students' safety.

The suspension applies to classes of all AM, PM and whole-day schools, including secondary schools, primary schools, special schools, kindergartens, and kindergartens-&-child care centres.

The Government reminds employers to make work arrangements for staff during and after tropical cyclone and rainstorm warnings as well as give consideration as much as possible to the different situations faced by individual employees and adopt a sympathetic and flexible approach.

According to the Hong Kong Observatory's latest weather forecast, as Typhoon Koinu is moving away from Hong Kong, rainfall may reach a high level of 250mm per day, which may cause flooding and road congestion. Citizens are reminded to stay indoors or take shelter in a safe place until the heavy rain has passed.

The Home Affairs Department has opened 29 temporary shelters. Call 2572 8427 for enquiries.
