Tse Chin-wan to attend APEC event
Secretary for Environment & Ecology Tse Chin-wan will depart tomorrow for Seattle, in the US, to attend an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Energy Ministerial Meeting due to be held there on August 15 and 16.
Under the theme of Creating a Resilient and Sustainable Future for All, energy ministers and senior officials from 21 APEC member economies will engage in dialogue to strengthen co-operation aimed at accelerating the transition to clean energy and ensuring sustainable and inclusive economic growth in the region.
Discussions will cover progress in decarbonising power production, advancing energy resilience and security, and the setting of new energy goals for the APEC community.
At a session on Tuesday, Mr Tse will update APEC member economies on Hong Kong’s strategies and work to decarbonise its power sector.
During his stay in the US, Mr Tse will also hold bilateral meetings with representatives from other APEC member economies to exchange views on ways of strengthening co-operation on energy matters.
In addition, Mr Tse will visit new energy facilities, including the Microsoft Thermal Energy Center.
The environment chief will conclude his visit and depart for Hong Kong on the morning of August 17. During his absence, Under Secretary for Environment & Ecology Diane Wong will be Acting Secretary for Environment & Ecology.
