A hub for smart manufacturing
The Advanced Manufacturing Centre (AMC) at the Tseung Kwan O InnoPark is a world-class, purpose-built advanced manufacturing base.
With a ceiling height of six metres on each floor and a grid size of 12m by 12m, it provides a scalable, efficient and dedicated logistics serviced manufacturing space.
Comprehensive services
The centre provides ample cargo lifts and loading bays for lorries. It also supports the high demand for electricity from enterprises.
Furthermore, the AMC offers a high-specification and fully serviced production base with a dedicated logistics serviced space for advanced manufacturing.
A shared platform, the ProShop, is also available in the AMC for enterprises to carry out prototyping and low-volume assembly and production.
All these features are specifically designed for providing comprehensive services for manufacturers to develop their innovative ideas into quality products.
Advanced facility
Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation Head of Innofacturing Yiu Hing-leung said there are two main services installed in the AMC to support advanced manufacturing.
“One is the advanced logistics centre. We are providing shared base warehousing, together with an automatic cargo delivery system. So that they can deliver goods back-and-forth to their premises automatically without a human.”
Citing the proverb “Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime,” Mr Yiu noted that the Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks’ mission is to provide the enterprises with the support they need, particularly with the manufacturing design aspect.
New industrialisation
Opened in early 2022, the response from the industry to the first AMC has been favourable. Enterprises engaging in commercial satellite manufacturing, nanomaterials, semiconductor assembly and medical devices are stationed there.
Among them is the first commercial aerospace enterprise in Hong Kong with satellite constellation engineering and satellite precision manufacturing as its core business.
The company’s co-chairman George Lam said their manufacturing base is located in the AMC with a total area of around 20,000 sq m.
“We are very satisfied with the AMC as the location for our production base. Our production system requires imported components and parts from all over the world. So we need very smart logistics support and warehousing support.”
As announced in the Policy Address, the Government will explore the construction of the second AMC at the Tai Po InnoPark to promote new industrialisation.
A technical feasibility study is being conducted by Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks in order to provide space and facilities for specialised industries in setting up advanced manufacturing production lines.
