Shing Mun Tunnels HKeToll smooth

May 22, 2023

The Transport Department today said the operation of HKeToll has been generally smooth since its implementation at Shing Mun Tunnels from 5am yesterday.

The department's emergency transport co-ordination centre has been closely monitoring the traffic situation at Shing Mun Tunnels. The overall traffic flow has been smooth in general and traffic conditions during peak hours are similar as before.

From 6am to 6pm today, of the 37,621 vehicles passing through Shing Mun Tunnels, about 95% have been detected with a vehicle tag.

Vehicle owners with outstanding tolls are reminded to pay them within 14 business days after passing through the tunnels.

Drivers should note that late payments will incur a surcharge of $175. The maximum penalty for evading tolls is a fine of $5,000 per trip and the licence of the vehicle concerned will not be renewed.

The department reiterated its appeal to vehicle owners to complete the three steps for HKeToll services as soon as possible.

Vehicle owners should first install a vehicle tag, then open an HKeToll account and set up an automatic payment means.

Following Shing Mun Tunnels, HKeToll will be implemented at Lion Rock Tunnel from 5am on May 28, the department added.
