May 2, 2023

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government today announced the setting up of the Hong Kong SAR Organising Committee of the 15th National Games.

The committee will plan for the organisation of the 15th National Games as well as the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games, to be co-hosted by the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau authorities in 2025.

The committee's key areas of work are to maintain close contact with the Guangdong Provincial Government and the Macao SAR Government on the preparatory work of the 15th National Games as well as to command and monitor the preparatory work of the sports competitions to be held in Hong Kong.

The organising committee's first meeting was held today, with its Chairman and Chief Secretary Chan Kwok-ki noting that it is very meaningful for Hong Kong to co-host the National Games with Guangdong and Macau.

“Further to the achievements of the Hong Kong, China Delegation at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, the co-hosting will give sports development in Hong Kong another boost. It will also deepen the collaboration between Hong Kong and other cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and go in line with the objective of building a healthy Bay Area.”

Mr Chan added it is a significant mission assigned by the central government for the Hong Kong SAR Government to be a co-host of the 15th National Games and that the Hong Kong SAR Government will spare no effort to work closely with the Guangdong Provincial Government and the Macao SAR Government to conduct a simple, safe and wonderful National Games.
