Xia Baolong meets chamber reps
Vice Chairman of the 13th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Director of the State Council's Hong Kong & Macao Affairs Office Xia Baolong met chamber representatives on the fifth day of his visit to Hong Kong.
Accompanied by Chief Executive John Lee, Mr Xia met both local and foreign business chamber representatives this morning and listened to their views.
Afterwards, Mr Xia, together with Financial Secretary Paul Chan, toured the Hong Kong Exchanges & Clearing and interacted with young financial management trainees there.
He then visited the Monetary Authority where he listened to a briefing by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government on the latest situation and development direction of the city as an international financial centre.
He was also briefed by the authority, the Securities & Futures Commission and the Insurance Authority about their work.
In the afternoon, Mr Xia headed for the Science Park where his first stop was at the Hong Kong Applied Science & Technology Research Institute, followed by the Multi-Scale Medical Robotics Centre at the research and development centre of InnoHK.
Furthermore, he attended an exchange session with representatives of the local innovation and technology industry and young scientists.
Later in the day, Mr Xia made his way to the University of Science & Technology where he was briefed by the university's Council Chairman Prof Harry Shum and President Prof Nancy Ip on the school's development strategy. He then toured the campus and had an exchange session with teaching staff and student representatives.
In the evening, Mr Xia took a boat ride on Victoria Harbour, during which Secretary for Development Bernadette Linn and Secretary for Culture, Sports & Tourism Kevin Yeung informed him about the harbourfront development and the latest development of cultural and tourism infrastructure in the city.
