Housing project moves for reuse
The relocation of Nam Cheong 220, the first transitional housing project in Hong Kong to adopt the modular integrated construction (MiC) method, started today.
The modules will be moved from Nam Cheong Street in Sham Shui Po to another transitional housing project operated by the Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society, Kowloon in Wong Yue Tan, Tai Po, for reuse.
By adopting the MiC method, the construction time of the project was significantly reduced. The whole process, from assembling the units to the intake of residents, took less than a year.
During its operation, the project helped to improve the living environment of 175 residents of 94 households.
As at January, the Government has identified land for providing over 20,000 transitional housing units, of which more than 6,900 have been completed. About 9,500 units are expected to be finished by the end of this year.
