Office of the Communications Authority staff provide assistance to a senior citizen who needs help with completing real-name registration for a pre-paid SIM card at an elderly centre.

Users with unregistered existing pre-paid SIM (PPS) cards should follow their telecommunications service provider’s instructions to complete real-name registration by February 23, the Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA) said today.

It explained that with the forthcoming full implementation of real-name registration for SIM cards on February 24, unregistered existing PPS cards cannot be used after February 23.

Since December 2022, the authority has been providing relevant information and sending reminders to people via television, radio, newspapers, social media platforms, public transportation, posters and pamphlets.

Moreover, in the past few months, OFCA staff have held 20 community talks on the real-name registration programme in different elderly centres, and visited a residential care home for the elderly to help participants complete the real-name registration of PPS cards on site.

In addition, the OFCA has arranged online training sessions and provided necessary assistance to around 200 welfare and related organisations so that their staff and helpers could assist their clients in need of such help.

Those who need to complete real-name registration of PPS cards may register through the mobile apps or websites of their telecommunications service providers.

They may also seek assistance at the retail outlets of their telecommunications service providers, from support stations at 25 MTR stations or service counters at 18 designated post offices.

Users of existing SIM service plans are not required to re-register with their telecommunications service providers unless they switch their service provider or subscribe to a new phone number.
