Views sought on MTR fare review
The Government today launched a three-month consultation on the review of the Mass Transit Railway Corporation’s Fare Adjustment Mechanism.
The fare adjustment mechanism is subject to a review every five years. The previous review, originally scheduled for completion in 2018, was brought forward by one year and completed in 2017.
The Government is conducting the latest round of the fare adjustment mechanism with the MTRC with a view to completing the review in the first quarter of 2023 and putting it into effect.
In the review, a feasible and pragmatic approach is being sought for the mechanism to maintain the financial prudence of the MTRC as a listed company, the Government explained.
It added that such a review is needed in order for it to take forward railway projects that address the development needs of society, as well as cope with its increasing expenditure on maintaining the railway system, while enabling the MTRC to respond to public concerns on fare adjustments.
People may send in their views via email by December 19.
The consultation paper can be downloaded from the Transport & Logistics Bureau website.
