Local COVID-19 cases remain at 10k

September 8, 2022

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 10,910 additional locally acquired COVID-19 cases, of which 2,825 were identified through nucleic acid tests and 8,085 via rapid antigen tests.

Separately, 181 imported cases were found and 12 more patients passed away.

Additionally, five residential care homes for the elderly or disabled people logged virus cases.

The centre also received notifications of 1,356 cases from 777 schools, involving 1,163 students and 193 staff.

Twenty-four schools that have registered infection cases were advised to suspend face-to-face lessons for specific classes temporarily.

The Hospital Authority announced that the Central Kowloon Health Centre in Kowloon City will be activated as a designated clinic for confirmed COVID-19 cases tomorrow. The clinic's normal general outpatient services will be suspended on the same day. The number of designated clinics will increase to eight by then.

The authority said in order to focus manpower and resources to further enhance designated clinic and tele-consultation services for supporting confirmed patients in the community, some general out-patient clinics (GOPC) will also curtail services from tomorrow, including the reduction of clinic sessions.

During the second day following the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday on September 12, the eight designated clinics together with eight GOPCs will provide public holiday services.

Due to a number of positive cases, 53 specified places are included in a compulsory testing notice. It also covers 14 specified sites in Tai Po, Wong Tai Sin, Lai Chi Kok and Sha Tin where some sewage samples tested positive for the virus.

The Government will reopen the mobile specimen collection stations at Ap Lei Chau Estate in Southern District, Lei Muk Shue Estate in Tsuen Wan, Bellagio in Sham Tseng and Cheung Wang Estate in Tsing Yi tomorrow.

Since there were positive sewage test results with relatively high viral loads in several areas in Kowloon City, Wong Tai Sin, Kwun Tong and Sha Tin districts, the respective district offices will distribute COVID-19 rapid test kits to relevant residents as well as cleaning workers and property management staff working there.
