Local COVID-19 cases stand at 4k

July 22, 2022

The Centre for Health Protection today said it is investigating 4,090 additional locally acquired COVID-19 cases, of which 1,522 were directly identified through nucleic acid tests and 2,568 via rapid antigen tests that were verified.

Separately, 180 imported cases were reported.

Three elderly care homes each recorded one positive case involving their residents.

The centre added that six more patients passed away, bringing the total number of deaths in the fifth wave of the epidemic to 9,241.

There were also 442 virus cases reported by 340 schools. Eight schools were subsequently advised to suspend face-to-face lessons for specific classes for a week.

Meanwhile, the Government made a restriction-testing declaration to cover Lai Tin House of Pak Tin Estate in Sham Shui Po, requiring people in the restricted area to undergo compulsory testing before the specified deadline.

Due to a number of positive cases, 64 specified places are included in a compulsory testing notice. It also covers one specified premises in Tseung Kwan O where some sewage samples tested positive for the virus.

The Government will reopen the mobile specimen collection station at Chuk Yuen North Estate in Wong Tai Sin tomorrow.

As there were positive sewage test results with relatively high viral loads in several areas of Kwai Tsing, Yau Tsim Mong and Kowloon City districts, the Housing Department and respective district offices will distribute COVID-19 rapid test kits to relevant residents as well as cleaning workers and property management staff working there.
