CE briefed on Kln East initiative
Chief Executive Carrie Lam today visited the Energizing Kowloon East Office to celebrate its 10th anniversary and toured the area for an update on the Energizing Kowloon East initiative.
Mrs Lam was told during a briefing that the Energizing Kowloon East initiative, with a vision to build the second core business district in Hong Kong, had borne fruit over the past decade as commercial land supply in Kowloon East saw a 70% increase to 2.9 million sq m from 2012.
Upon completion of major planned developments including the action areas in Kowloon Bay and Kwun Tong, the supply will further increase to over four million sq m, a scale on a par with that of the core business district in Central.
Mrs Lam also toured the Fly the Flyover Operation venues next to the Energizing Kowloon East Office and was pleased to learn that with the continuous stabilisation of the local epidemic, the restaurants and urban farms there have seen an improvement in business.
While at the promenade, the Chief Executive received a briefing on the progress of the proposed walkways across Kwun Tong Typhoon Shelter and along Wai Yip Street to understand the development concept of Walkable Kowloon East and visited the refurbished Hoi Bun Road Park.
"Time flies. The Energizing Kowloon East initiative is celebrating its 10th anniversary,” Mrs Lam noted.
She added that the Energizing Kowloon East Office has been steadfastly upholding a visionary and innovative operation mode, and its efforts have gradually transformed Kowloon East from a traditional industrial area into a uniquely attractive core business district.
“I have every confidence that the office will continue to co-ordinate the efforts of the Government, business sector and community to help Hong Kong bring in talent and investments, reinforcing the important status of Kowloon East as Hong Kong's second core business district.”
