CS inspects isolation facility handover

March 12, 2022

Chief Secretary John Lee today visited the third community isolation facility constructed with Mainland support on the Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities Island of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

Upon arrival, he attended a handover seminar with Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Yin Zonghua and the chairman of the contractor, China State Construction International Holdings.

While being briefed about the construction by the contractor’s representatives, Mr Lee learnt that the facility provides around 400 rooms and 1,200 beds for emergency isolation.

He pointed out that the construction personnel have worked around the clock to complete the facility quickly and will provide continuous maintenance services after it comes into operation.

He also stressed that completion of the facility represents the central government's full support for the anti-epidemic work of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

As more community isolation and treatment facilities are completed with the support of the central government, the Hong Kong SAR Government will make the best use of the facilities to isolate infected people immediately and stabilise the COVID-19 epidemic situation, the Chief Secretary emphasised.

At present, the room occupancy rate of the two handed-over projects in Tsing Yi and San Tin has reached around 80%. Projects in Fanling, Hung Shui Kiu and Yuen Long will be handed over to the Hong Kong SAR Government within this month.

These six facilities will provide about 20,000 additional beds for emergency isolation, Mr Lee added.
