University Grants Committee Chairman Carlson Tong today expressed thanks to Prof Leonard Cheng, who will retire as Lingnan University President, for his significant contributions to the university over the years.

Mr Tong pointed out that Prof Cheng has taken Lingnan University's unique tradition in liberal arts education to a higher level by providing a quality learning experience that focuses on whole-person development, noting that such an achievement has been deeply appreciated by the school's students and graduates.

“Prof Cheng has also driven Lingnan University's development on multiple fronts, in particular advocating for care and social impact as the guidepost for research activities, which are coupled with various knowledge transfer activities to bring about benefits to our community,” Mr Tong said.

“As a visionary president with outstanding leadership, Prof Cheng has led the university to become a first-class liberal arts institution," he added.
