National Games a boon to HK
The hosting of a major sports event like the National Games in Hong Kong will be conducive to sports promotion for the city, Secretary for Home Affairs Caspar Tsui said today.
Mr Tsui was responding to reporters’ questions concerning the State Council’s agreement for Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau to host the 15th National Games in 2025.
He said: “A major sports event in Hong Kong will benefit our promotion of sports, sports for all, elite sports and mega events. We are also exploring the potential with the development and opportunities in the Greater Bay Area, and any enhancement or further development in the professional areas related to sports as well as sports-related events.”
The home affairs chief also said youngsters should learn more about Hong Kong’s role in the bay area via events relating to sports.
“So I would encourage, in the next few years, more exchanges, more sports-related events, especially for the youngsters, be organised to understand our role in the Greater Bay Area and the development of the country.”
