Museum expo reveals Pixar secrets
A new special exhibition, The Science Behind Pixar, will be held at the Science Museum from tomorrow to offer visitors an unparalleled insight into Pixar's filmmaking process.
The exhibition will showcase eight steps of Pixar's technical process in filmmaking, which are modelling, rigging, surfaces, sets and cameras, animation, simulation, lighting and rendering. Visitors can learn about how the animator's artists and computer scientists bring artistry and technology together to create marvellous films.
With more than 50 interactive exhibits, including maquettes, models and videos, the exhibition will offer hands-on experience in different roles and tasks within the production pipeline.
Visitors can try their hand at being an animator who poses characters or a gaffer who designs the best lighting for the character. They can also take pictures with statues of various Pixar film characters.
The Leisure & Cultural Services Department said the expo reveals that the ingenious merging of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) concepts largely contributed to Pixar's success in creating life-like characters and realistic scenes.
The exhibition will run until December 1 at the museum's Ground Floor Exhibition Hall. Visitors are required to book online in advance.
