Pop culture expo set

July 27, 2021

A new permanent exhibition will open at the Heritage Museum from tomorrow on the development of popular culture in Hong Kong.

More than 1,000 exhibits at "Hong Kong Pop 60+" will take visitors on a journey through the development of the city’s popular music, film, television and radio programmes, as well as comics and toys, from the end of the Second World War to the early 2000s.

One of the exhibits is a minidress worn by actress Josephine Siao in a Cantonese musical that helped influence the minidress fashion trend in the city.

The 1980s saw a band music industry boom. One of the era’s best-known bands was Beyond. Its lead singer Wong Ka-kui saved $3,000 to buy his first acoustic guitar and the band’s early work was composed on that very guitar.

Heritage Museum Curator (Special Duties) Judith Ng said at the press preview today that the museum has curated several exhibitions related to pop culture.

“Since we are getting more and more exhibits on popular culture, we started to think about creating an exhibition on popular culture.”
