Olympics Live Zone to be launched

July 11, 2021

The Leisure & Cultural Services Department today said it will set up Olympics Live Zone at designated sports centres in 18 districts to broadcast the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games’ competitions.

The live zones will allow the public to experience the excitement of the Tokyo Olympic Games and cheer for participating Hong Kong athletes, the department explained.

On the opening day of the Tokyo Olympics on July 23, a launch out event for the Olympics Live Zone will be held at 5pm at Kowloon Park Sports Centre.

Apart from the sports demonstration and play in programmes on the event day, Hong Kong athletes will share sports knowledge with the public and show support for participating athletes. Olympics Live Zone at the other venues will also be open from the evening of July 23.

Between July 24 and August 8, opening hours for all Olympics Live Zone will be from 8am to 11pm. Citizens are welcome to visit and watch the live broadcast and highlights of the games’ competitions.

Exhibition panels featuring Hong Kong athletes in the Tokyo Olympics will also be displayed at the venues.

To encourage the public to partake in sports while having fun in watching the Tokyo Olympics events, a series of Learning Sports 101 videos are available online. Such videos highlight introduction and demonstration of sports skills by elite athletes, the department added.
