CE visits CUHK Medical Centre
Chief Executive Carrie Lam today visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Medical Centre which started operation early this year.
Mrs Lam toured the main pharmacy, the Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation Centre and hospital wards, and was briefed on the hospital’s operation and services.
Currently, the medical centre mainly provides outpatient and day services. It also serves as a community vaccination centre. Mrs Lam thanked the medical centre for supporting the Government’s vaccination programme.
The centre will collaborate with the Hospital Authority to help handle public hospitals’ specialist outpatient new cases and day procedure cases so as to alleviate the burden of the public healthcare system.
The Chief Executive was pleased to learn of the centre's positioning as a smart hospital, in which innovation and technology (I&T) has been widely used in healthcare procedures and hospital operations to improve treatment effectiveness and enhance efficiency.
"Healthcare services, I&T development and higher education are all Hong Kong's competitive strengths. The current-term Government has been pressing ahead with I&T development, with innovative healthcare and healthcare technology among our focus areas,” Mrs Lam said.
“CUHK Medical Centre's development as a smart hospital is in line with the government policy in promoting a smart city. It can serve as an application platform for locally developed healthcare technologies, in particular for startups,” she added.
