Matthew Cheung bids farewell

Chief Secretary Matthew Cheung said today it was his honour and privilege to have served Hong Kong for nearly 50 years and he expressed gratitude to the central government and all Chief Executives for their support over the years.

 

Mr Cheung said it gave him much satisfaction to have served the Hong Kong community in various positions, especially in his service for the country and Hong Kong as well as his participation in the implementation of "one country, two systems" since Hong Kong's return to the motherland.

 

He wholeheartedly thanked government colleagues, legislators, various sectors of the community, the media and the public for their support and assistance.

 

Mr Cheung also expressed heartfelt thanks to his family, saying that the unfailing support, encouragement and understanding they gave over the years has provided a strong impetus to his work.

 

He said he is glad to continue to serve the community and contribute to the country should opportunities arise in the future.

 

He sincerely wished that Hong Kong would maintain its long-term stability and prosperity and wished all its citizens good health and happiness.

 

Mr Cheung joined the Government in 1972, was appointed as Secretary for Labour & Welfare in July 2007 and Chief Secretary in January 2017.
