Chief Executive Carrie Lam today said Hong Kong will hold activities to celebrate the 24th anniversary of its reunification with the Mainland, including a flag-raising ceremony and reception on July 1.

Mrs Lam made the statement ahead of the June 8 Executive Council meeting this morning.

She said: “As in previous years, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government will host various types of activities, including the flag-raising ceremony and the reception on July 1.”

The Chief Executive added that celebration activities will be held by various organisations, though the scale will not be as large as those before the COVID-19 epidemic.

“I understand that many associations are also organising similar celebration activities under the restrictions imposed because of COVID-19.

“Perhaps we will not be able to go back to previous years when there were large crowds attending receptions, dinners and large gatherings to celebrate this important day, but I believe that these sort of activities are still going on.”
