Rail project proposal under study
The Government is studying the South Island Line (West) proposal submitted by the Mass Transit Railway Corporation (MTRC).
Secretary for Transport & Housing Frank Chan made the statement when responding to questions in the Legislative Council today, noting the Government received the project proposal from MTRC last December.
Mr Chan said that relevant departments will consider the way forward taking into account the growth in transport demand from the development at the south of Pok Fu Lam near Wah Fu, the redevelopment timetable of Wah Fu Estate and the Invigorating Island South initiative.
Noting that the Government expects the population of Pok Fu Lam will have more significant growth only after the completion of Wah Fu Estate's redevelopment, he said works for the railway project can only be carried out after the estate’s residents have moved to reception estates at Pok Fu Lam South.
The transport chief added the Government will consult the public in line with established procedures before finalising the railway scheme for the South Island Line (West).
