Russian royal treasures go on display
The Heritage Museum will showcase 170 sets of imperial artefacts from the Moscow Kremlin Museums in the Tsar of All Russia. Holiness & Splendour of Power exhibition from tomorrow.
Highlight exhibits include a “Jericho cap” ceremonial helmet which Tsar Aleksei Mikhailovich used in his battles, and Tsar Peter the Great’s diamond and emerald pectoral cross.
Through artefacts including ornaments worn by queens, princes’ toys, staffs, weapons and articles from foreign diplomats, the exhibition illustrates court life as well as the political, religious and cultural environment in Russia in the 16th to 18th centuries.
“The exhibition not only provides a rare opportunity for visitors in Hong Kong to appreciate the imperial grandeur of Russia, but also enables the public to interact with other cultures when international travel restrictions are in place,” Secretary for Home Affairs Caspar Tsui said at the opening ceremony today.
Jointly presented by the Leisure & Cultural Services Department and the Moscow Kremlin Museums, and organised by the Heritage Museum and the Moscow Kremlin Museums, the expo will run from tomorrow until August 29.
