Composers called for City Hall jubilee

March 10, 2021

The Call for Composers scheme has been launched to invite local composers to create a new piece for orchestra to celebrate City Hall’s 60th anniversary in 2022, the Leisure & Cultural Services Department announced today.

The department explained that it will select a composer to create a new piece of music under the theme, Hong Kong City Hall: the cradle of arts & culture in Hong Kong's past, present & future.

The commissioned work will be premiered by a world-class visiting orchestra at City Hall in July 2022.

The adjudication panel of the first phase selection will be made up of professional composers and conductors, including local and overseas experts.

The panel will compile a shortlist of candidates based on the reference orchestral works submitted as well as proposals on the composition of the commissioned work.

The performing orchestra will then select one composer to write the commissioned work.

The submission deadline is April 26.
