New ID replacement timetable set

February 3, 2021

The Immigration Department today announced that the Secretary for Security has made an amendment order to extend the period for residents born in 1962 or 1963 to apply for a new smart Hong Kong identity card to February 20.

To reduce the risk of the spread of COVID-19 due to crowd gatherings, the department suspended the services at nine Smart Identity Card Replacement Centres from December 2, 2020 to January 31.

Due to the service suspension, some people born in 1962 or 1963 may have been unable to apply for new identity cards within the previously announced application period. The amendment order extends the application period for those people.

The call-up programme for people born in 1970 to 1972 previously announced remains unchanged. The application period will last until April 30.

People born in 1973 to 1976 should apply for a new smart identity card from February 22 to July 9, while those born between 2005 and 2007 and from 2012 to 2018 have to apply for their new identity cards between May 3 and September 18.

To avoid crowd gatherings, the department encouraged applicants to make appointment bookings online, via its mobile application or the 24-hour telephone booking hotline at 2121 1234.

Applicants can pre-fill the application form when making appointment bookings to save waiting time.
