Bay area opportunities discussed

December 15, 2020

Chief Secretary Matthew Cheung said the Government will provide more information on development opportunities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to the public, in particular the young generation.

Mr Cheung chaired the third meeting of the second-term Human Resources Planning Commission today, during which members were briefed on the Funding Scheme for Youth Entrepreneurship in the Greater Bay Area and the bay area Youth Employment Scheme in the Policy Address.

He pointed out that the bay area is one of the most open and economically vibrant regions in the country, offering more career development pathways for young people in Hong Kong.

Mr Cheung added that the Government will do its best in providing more information on development opportunities in the bay area so that young people who are interested in pursuing a career there could plan and prepare according to their own abilities and interests.

Members welcomed the new initiatives on supporting youth entrepreneurship announced in the Policy Address and offered views on how to further support young people in Hong Kong to start their own businesses during the epidemic.

They also discussed how to assist Hong Kong's youth to further seize the enormous development potential of the bay area and explore more quality and diverse employment opportunities.
