Helpers reminded of hotel quarantine
The Labour Department today reminded foreign domestic helpers and employers to take note of the new measure on designated quarantine hotels.
The new measure will take effect from December 22 to mandate all travellers arriving in Hong Kong from countries outside China to undergo 14-day compulsory quarantine at designated quarantine hotels.
The department said before checking in for flights to Hong Kong, foreign domestic helpers should produce confirmation of a room reservation at a designated quarantine hotel to aircraft operators for boarding. The room reservation should be for a period of not less than 14 nights starting on the day of arrival.
Without an authorised officer’s permission, foreign domestic helpers are not allowed to leave their room and no one is allowed to visit them during the 14-day compulsory quarantine period. The hotels will provide three meals a day to people under quarantine.
Employers are reminded to comply with their obligations under the Standard Employment Contract, including bearing the accommodation expenses and providing a food allowance to foreign domestic helpers during the compulsory quarantine.
The department said employment agencies should provide the correct information to employers. If agencies are found breaching the Code of Practice for Employment Agencies, they will be penalised.
