The Centre for Health Protection today said a doctor at Queen Elizabeth Hospital has tested positive for COVID-19.

During a press briefing this afternoon, the centre's Communicable Disease Branch Head Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan explained that this case worked in the same laboratory as a doctor who was earlier confirmed infected.

“For the two Queen Elizabeth Hospital doctors, according to the preliminary investigation, we understand that they went back home together sometimes during the incubation period when one of the doctors had an early onset of symptoms. So this might be a route of transmission.

“I understand the doctors do not have patient contact, so they may not pose risks to the patients in the hospital.”

The Hospital Authority added that another doctor has been classified as a close contact, while 77 staff members have undergone COVID-19 testing and all have returned negative results.
