Barbecue sites remain closed

November 13, 2020

The barbecue sites and campsites in country parks will remain closed until further notice to reduce social contact as far as possible, the Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department announced today.

The 163 barbecue sites and 41 campsites under the department’s management have been closed since July 15. No one should carry out barbecuing or camping activities in country parks or enter cordoned-off areas.

Since the closure, the department has conducted 48,015 inspections of the closed sites, issued 4,984 verbal warnings and advice, and taken enforcement action against 324 people for illegally entering such areas.

Department staff will continue to step up patrols of the sites concerned and take appropriate follow-up action against any violation of relevant regulations.

It also emphasised that it will closely monitor the situation and review the arrangement as appropriate.

Country park visitors are reminded to maintain personal and environmental hygiene and social distancing. They should also properly dispose of used masks and waste and take their litter home.
