HK sees hottest summer
The Hong Kong Observatory today announced that the city experienced the hottest summer on record from June to August, with the mean maximum temperature reaching 32.6 degrees Celsius for the period.
The mean temperature of 29.6 degrees Celsius and the mean minimum temperature of 27.7 degrees Celsius were also the highest on record for the same period.
From January to August, the number of very hot days reached 43, breaking the previous record of 38 days set in 2016.
There were 16 very hot days in August, the highest number on record for the month.
August’s highest temperature was 34.4 degrees Celsius and the lowest temperature was 24.9 degrees Celsius.
Typhoon Signal No. 8 was issued at night on August 18 as typhoon Higos struck Hong Kong. Typhoon Signal No. 9 was issued in the small hours of August 19.
The total monthly rainfall was 448.4mm, which was about 4% above average.
The accumulated rainfall for the first eight months of the year was 1,537.2mm, about 19% below normal for the period.
