Chief Executive Carrie Lam (front row, left) visits Tai Wai Market to learn about the progress of improvement works there.

Chief Executive Carrie Lam today inspected the site for the new public market in Tin Shui Wai and reviewed the progress of improvement works of Tai Wai Market.

Accompanied by Secretary for Food & Health Prof Sophia Chan, Mrs Lam went to a section of Tin Fuk Road near Tin Shui Wai MTR Station, which is the site for the new Tin Shui Wai Market.

According to the preliminary planning, which has taken into account suggestions made by the Yuen Long District Council, at least 120 stalls, including cooked food stalls, will be available in the new market.

Mrs Lam also visited Tin Shui Wai Police Station.

She noted that part of the station was damaged while besieged by violent protesters recently, and thanked the Police for striving to enforce law and order under extremely difficult conditions.

Mrs Lam then went to Tai Wai Market to inspect the progress of works to install an air-conditioning system there.

Works commenced in early May, and it is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2020.

During the visit, Mrs Lam also chatted with residents who expressed diverse views on social issues.

She said: “I will put forward more measures to improve people's livelihoods in the upcoming 2019 Policy Address.

“Public consultation on the Policy Address is underway and members of the public are welcome to give their views.”
