Gov’t urges order to be restored
In response to serious illegal protests and violent activities across the city yesterday, the Government strongly condemned the protesters' acts and urged the public to uphold the rule of law.
The Government made the statement today, saying protesters who advocated strikes and the so-called uncooperative movement deliberately blocked the Cross-Harbour Tunnel and major roads, and disrupted train services yesterday.
The acts seriously affected passengers during peak hours. Some objects were found on rail tracks, risking both train operations and passengers’ safety.
Protesters also charged the Central Government Offices and multiple police stations where they attacked officers, vandalised police vehicles and committed arson.
Such acts disregarded law and order, deprived people’s right to work and seriously affected economic activities.
The Government strongly condemned the rapidly escalating violence which is pushing Hong Kong to the verge of a very dangerous situation.
It appealed to the public who cherish and love Hong Kong to work together with the Government to combat violence, uphold the rule of law and restore social order as soon as possible.
The Government thanked civil servants and public service providers for enabling the normal operation of public services and minimising disruptions to public transport, as well as people from all walks of life for standing fast at their posts.
