Landfill restoration:

The Environmental Protection Department signs the first funding agreement under the Restored Landfill Revitalisation Funding Scheme with the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals.

The Environmental Protection Department and the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) signed a funding agreement to revitalise the Tseung Kwan O Landfill.

It is the first funding agreement under the Restored Landfill Revitalisation Funding Scheme and will provide funding for the TWGHs to carry out pre-construction activities to revitalise the Tseung Kwan O Stage I Landfill.

The department said the scheme provides funding for eligible non-profit organisations or national sports associations to develop recreational facilities or other innovative beneficial uses at restored landfills.

The TWGHs has proposed to revitalise the landfill into a campsite and green education ground, with facilities such as camping grounds, a plant-maze adventure zone and an outdoor recreational platform.

The department signed the funding agreement with the TWGHs yesterday to provide funding for the project's pre-construction activities, including site investigation, detailed design and tender documentation.

To expedite the development of facilities at restored landfills, the Government has earmarked $1 billion under the Capital Works Reserve Fund for the scheme.
