Customs officers have arrested a 50-year-old man after seizing about 22,000 smuggled signal flares worth $1.5 million.

Officers intercepted an incoming container truck at Shenzhen Bay Control Point on Monday and found the batch of smuggled goods in the cargo compartment.

Anyone found guilty of importing or exporting unmanifested cargo faces a maximum fine of $2 million and seven years’ imprisonment.
