Smuggled endangered wood seized

Customs officers have seized 23.8 tonnes of Honduras rosewood worth $2.4 million in Kwai Chung.
They found the wood, an endangered species, in a container which arrived from Honduras during an inspection at a customhouse cargo examination compound yesterday.
The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department is investigating the case.
Under the Protection of Endangered Species of Animals & Plants Ordinance, anyone who imports or exports an endangered species without a licence is liable to a $5 million fine and two years in jail.
