The month-long World Cultures Festival 2013 showcased rich and diverse Eastern European cultures and traditions with an array of dance, theatre and music programmes.

Flying start: Russia’s pioneering Eifman Ballet of St Petersburg’s Anna Karenina opened the festival.

 

Fresh perspective: The performance gave the classic work a dazzling reinterpretation with contemporary choreography.

 

Double exposure: The camera captures the dancers’ movements twice in one shot.

Flexible feelings: The dancers’s fluid movements express deep emotions.

 

Show and tell: Stories on Eastern Europe’s unique cultural history are presented in a dialogue format. 

Migrant music: Hungary’s Budapest Gypsy Symphony Orchestra enchants the audience.

 

 

Outside looking in: Screens set up at the Cultural Centre piazza broadcast the orchestra's spectacular performance live. 

 

Celebrity tale: Persona. Marilyn by the Dramatic Theatre of the City of Warsaw explores the famous actress’s complex personality.

1,000 words: The festival also featured a contemporary art exhibition of works selected to reveal Eastern Europe's unique cultural contribution.

Attention getter: Visitors are attracted to the installation Born without a Reason at the exhibition.

Silver screen: The Party & the Guests, a Czech film produced in 1966, featured in the festival’s film selection.
