Resettlement expo to open

December 15, 2015
Poor past

Poor past:  This 1955 photo is one of the exhibits in the Public Records Office sqatter resettlement expo.

The Public Records Office will host an exhibition chronicling the resettlement of squatter village residents since the 1950s.

Held at the Public Records Building in Kwun Tong from tomorrow, the show features 60 exhibits and images tracing Hong Kong's evolution from a city scattered with squatter areas to the building of resettlement blocks.

The images show squatters in caves and trees, some of the earliest resettlement estates in Shek Kip Mei, Lei Cheng Uk, Lok Fu and Wong Tai Sin, and how those areas look now.

Other exhibits include documents, maps and statistics on the Shek Kip Mei squatter fire.

The exhibition is open weekdays from 9am to 5.45pm.
