Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung has urged ATV to decide on the way forward for the sake of its employees.
The broadcaster was fined $690,000 by Shatin Magistracy today for failing to pay its staff on time. Mr Cheung said that together with 38 summonses that the company had earlier pleaded guilty to, the fines amounted to more than $1 million - the highest on record.
He said the fines underline the Labour Department's determination to protect employees' statutory rights and that it will not tolerate employers' failure to pay wages.
Mr Cheung urged ATV to quickly decide on its future direction to ease employees' anxiety and sense of suspense.
