CS urges students to end protest
September 01, 2012
Chief Secretary Carrie Lam has urged students staging a protest and hunger strike at the Government headquarters against the national education subject in schools, to end their rally as planned.
Speaking to the media after visiting Tin Shui Wai today, Mrs Lam said the students have expressed their opinions and she hopes they will now return to school.
She said the three students on hunger strike were weak yesterday, and Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man arranged for the Auxiliary Medical Service to care for them, however, the students felt they did not need help.
On the moral and national education subject, Mrs Lam said the Government has given flexibility to schools to decide on how they teach the subject.
She said the curriculum will help students develop independent thinking, adding it is not brain-washing material.
