Teaching award recipients to get $500k

February 28, 2011
The University Grants Committee will launch the first round of teaching awards, awarding winners a $500,000 grant to undertake learning and teaching-related initiatives.

In announcing the award scheme today, the committee chairman Laura Cha said the awardees will become ambassadors of good teaching. There will be a maximum of three awardees in this round, with results expected in September.

Nominations will be assessed on four criteria which represent important teaching aspects, including adopting learner-centred approaches, curriculum design, scholarly activities in learning and teaching, and scholarly contribution to the development of effective teaching practice.

Two nominations will be invited from each institution the committee funds. A selection panel with local and overseas committee members and Quality Assurance Council members, and an external overseas expert will consider the nominations.
