Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Lau Yip-shing will succeed retiring Wong Chi-hung as Deputy Commissioner (Operations) from October 17.
Mr Lau, 55, joined the Police as Inspector in 1984 and was promoted to Senior Assistant Commissioner in 2013.
Mr Lau spent his first 10 years in the force on criminal investigations.
Since 1994 he started to work in various policy wings and operation units.
Between 2000 and 2003 he was seconded to the Airport Authority to oversee aviation security services.
