Secretary for Security TK Lai says the Government will study all suggestions and listen to people's views on the maintenance of public order in the wake of the recent Mong Kok riot.
Mr Lai made the statement today in response to media queries on the Security Bureau's stance on a law proposed by some Legislative Councillors to ban protesters from wearing masks.
He noted there has been a lot of discussion on the anti-mask proposal with different views expressed.
On criticism the Judiciary has been too lenient on protesters, he said the courts, having heard a case, make a judgment in accordance with the law.
He said the rule of law is one of the pillars of Hong Kong society, adding: "We all respect the judgment of the court."
On the law and order situation last year, he said overall crime cases were nearly 2% down on 2014 and the lowest since 1979.
