The Police will take resolute enforcement action against any person who obstructs or violently charges at bailiffs carrying out court injunctions, Secretary for Security TK Lai told lawmakers today.
He said the Police had warned people on different occasions that obstructing the enforcement of a court order constitutes contempt of court, which is punishable by imprisonment.
The court has authorised the Police to arrest those who violate the order, where necessary. Officers will also ensure the action taken is in line with the force's guidelines and legal requirements.
Mr Lai warned that those arrested for unlawful acts will be brought before the court for further directions.
In case a person commits other crimes at the same time, the Police force shall exercise the power conferred upon it by law to maintain public order and safety, and seek the Department of Justice’s advice where necessary.
The security chief added that anyone who is detained has the right to see a lawyer and the Police will facilitate their external communication requests.
