Secretary for Security TK Lai said today that the Police are investigating the alleged excessive use of force by officers, and stressed that the officers involved have been reassigned to other duties.
Mr Lai spoke to reporters in response to a video clip showing plainclothes officers allegedly using excessive force during efforts to disperse protesters this morning.
He said the Complaints Against Police Office will also investigate the incident in a fair manner and in accordance with established procedures.
Last night and early this morning, protesters ran onto the road at the junction of Lung Wo Road and Tim Wa Avenue, with some throwing objects from above, and others snatching Police barriers and building roadblocks, posing a danger to themselves and road users.
Mr Lai said the Police had to take resolute action to disperse the crowd and resume traffic in the area.
