Police have removed some barricades at protest sites in Admiralty and Causeway Bay, reopening Queensway and the westbound lanes of Hennessy Road.
Police Public Relations Branch Chief Superintendent Steve Hui told the media today the action was not to clear the protest sites, but to ensure public safety and order.
Protesters reinforced the barriers with bamboo poles, wooden planks and concrete, which poses a safety risk and restricts emergency vehicle access, he said, adding that Police must remove them.
He said the Mong Kok protest site remains a high-risk area and Police will remove barriers there, also.
He urged people not to obstruct or charge at Police when they remove the barriers, warning that people causing obstruction face arrest.
