Traffic flows after roadblocks removed

October 13, 2014

Police today removed some barricades at protest sites to re-open roads and reduce the risk of conflict with people opposing protesters' actions.

Police Public Relations Branch Chief Superintendent Steve Hui said the move was not to clear the protest sites.

Police removed obstacles at 27 locations in Central and Mong Kok, reopening seven sections of road.

He said roadblocks near Queensway and Yee Wo Street are not connected to major protest sites, and protesters have enough space to voice their opinions. Police will soon take action to remove these roadblocks so traffic can resume.

He urged protesters to obey Police instructions and not charge officers, or they will be removed and arrested.

Speaking on a confrontation in Queensway this afternoon, Mr Hui said Police at the scene had to separate people with different views to prevent casualties.

Negotiators were sent to the scene to keep protesters calm, he added.
