Chief Executive CY Leung says the use of violence to protest or demonstrate is not acceptable as there is enough freedom for people to hold public meetings and express their views.
Speaking to reporters before attending an Executive Council meeting today, Mr Leung said he, as the head of the Hong Kong Government, goes to receive petition letters every Tuesday, evidence that people have freedom to express different views.
There are also many public meetings and protests in Hong Kong, and participants mostly express their views in peaceful and legal ways. He stressed the use of violence in expressing views at the Legislative Council and Central Government Headquarters is not acceptable.
